Hello and welcome to the latest edition of ‘What’s That You’re Doing?’
The first month of the year has only just come to an end, and 2023 is already shaping up to be a legendary one!
In the year that marks the 60th anniversary of The Beatles’ debut studio album Please Please Me, prepare to be transported back in time as Paul unveils a new exhibition and book this summer, showcasing never-before-seen photographs captured as Beatlemania went global.
Paul McCartney Photographs 1963-64: Eyes of the Storm will run from 28 June – 1 October 2023 at the newly renovated National Portrait Gallery in London. Taken by Paul on 35mm camera, the photographs document The Beatles’ journey through six cities, from gigs at home in Liverpool and London, their residency in Paris through to taking America by storm and performing on The Ed Sullivan Show in New York. Find out more here.
Accompanying this landmark exhibition, a new book 1964: Eyes of the Storm by Paul McCartney will be published on 13 June 2023. Featuring 275 photographs, the book includes a Foreword by Paul as well as his Introductions to the Liverpool, London, Paris, New York, Washington, D.C. and Miami city portfolios. 1964: Eyes of the Storm is available for pre-order now – get your copy here.

Messages of love and kindness are common in Paul’s work, whether he’s talking about animals and the environment, or about his own relationships with family and friends. In his first ‘You Gave Me the Answer’ website Q&A of 2023, Paul shared his Valentine’s Day plans and gave us an insight into how he approaches being both a father and a husband – spoiler, your own Valentine’s plans may look a bit half-hearted compared to his! Read the full Q&A here.
With a new month comes a new ‘Sticking Out Of My Back Pocket’ playlist on Spotify. We’re starting February by handing over the controls to fans in the Paul McCartney Official Fan Group on Facebook, as they picked their favourite deep cuts and well-loved classics. We get by with a little help from our friends – listen to the ‘Fan Favourite February’ takeover here. And if you’d like a ‘Say, Say, Say’, you can join the Facebook Group here. Look out for more opportunities to get involved in Paul’s online activity, as there’s always something ‘Coming Up’!
