Hello and welcome to the November edition of ‘What’s That You’re Doing?’
|

After two long years since his last in-person event, Paul took to the stage at the Royal Festival Hall on November 5th for a special ‘In Conversation’ event. Fans watched in the audience and via a global livestream as Paul was joined by The Lyrics editor Paul Muldoon, and host Samira Ahmed for a night no one would ever forget. From Paul’s early memories as a young boy in Liverpool, to working with John Lennon, to his literary inspiration and even his favourite mode of transport (the bus!), we learnt a lot about Paul, The Lyrics and more! Watch a clip from their conversation here.
Meanwhile, we've been going behind the lyrics of some of Paul's songs on TikTok, and giving you some daily lyric inspiration on your Twitter feeds. Follow @LyricsMcCartney for more!
Hey UK subscribers: did you manage to catch an evening of Paul McCartney on BBC 2 earlier this month? The event included a brand new 90 minute special Paul McCartney at the BBC, featuring appearances from Paul’s BBC performances and some moments from his conversation with Bob Mortimer at The British Library. You can still watch it back on iPlayer here.
Speaking of The British Library, earlier this month the institution opened its doors in London with a free display: Paul McCartney: The Lyrics. This specially curated display includes handwritten lyrics, insights from Paul and photographs from the book, and will run until 13th March 2022. Find out more here! |

That’s not all that we've been up to at PaulMcCartney.com this month, as we got back to Saville Row for Peter Jackson’s fascinating three part event The Beatles: Get Back. Paul attended the London preview and gave a heartfelt speech before the screening - watch here! All three episodes of the docu-series are now streaming on Disney+.
This month, we also “found our way” back to this time last year, when we were counting down the days to Paul’s now number one “Rockdown” album; McCartney III. We went behind the scenes at the Third Man Records pressing plant, and saw how McCartney and McCartney II created the incredible McCartney III 333 edition. Watch the short documentary here! We also got the great news McCartney III has been nominated for not one but two GRAMMYs, for Best Rock album and ‘Find My Way’ for Best Rock Song. |

What else did Paul get up to in November? In a month where Paul inducted the Foo Fighters into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, wished us a bonnie Bonfire Night, thankful Thanksgiving and a happy Hanukkah, he was also sharing his beloved bagel hacks with a little help from his daughters Mary and Stella, and comedian Romesh Ranganathan. You can watch the full McCartney bagel clip on TikTok here!
Sadly, this month saw the passing of the great American composer Stephen Sondheim, Paul shared a message in memory of the Broadway legend. November also marked the 20th anniversary of George Harrison’s passing: read Paul’s message here. November has been a month worth celebrating; with awards, brand new films and exhibitions, we wanted to hand over some of our duties to you, Paul’s fans! Fans at the Royal Festival Hall event put their lyric skills to the test for some #TriviaTuesday videos on Instagram, and we also passed over the virtual aux cord in order to curate this month's ‘Sticking Out of My Back Pocket’ playlist. Crank up the volume and see what songs from The Lyrics you wanted to hear: listen here!
Phew, with all that going on in one month, buying a farm in rural Scotland sounds rather appealing... So for this month’s ‘You Gave Me The Answer’ website Q&A, we had a question from Scottish author Ali Smith, who wanted to find out more about the place in Scotland that inspired Paul's RAM album, 'Mull of Kintyre' and more. We couldn't think of a better way to celebrate St Andrew's Day! From sheering sheep and bird watching to developing skills that allowed him to be the person we know today, read all about Paul's highland life here!
All The Best, |
